What Is John Ellis Water?

The short answer

John Ellis Water is water produced by the LWM-5 Living Water Machine, a countertop system invented by engineer John Ellis. The machine combines steam distillation, ultraviolet treatment, and repeated rapid heating and cooling to widen the hydrogen bond angle of water from about 104.5° to 113.8°–114°, a change that holds after the water cools. How John Ellis Machine treats water

It is not a brand of bottled water. It is a machine you own, and it makes the water in your kitchen. The LWM-5 is $2,800, hand-built in the USA from stainless steel, and carries a 6-month limited warranty.

Who John Ellis is

John Ellis holds an engineering degree from Lafayette College, where he specialised in steam plant design. He has spent more than six decades working on water treatment, holds thirteen patents on his steel distillers worldwide — including U.S. Patent US6409888B1 — and the company has been family owned and operated for over forty years. He was profiled in The Washington Post in 1992 and is in Lafayette College’s athletic hall of fame for a 1957 discus record.

What the machine actually does

Three things happen together, and it is the combination the patent covers rather than any one of them alone.

Rapid thermal cycling

An ordinary distiller boils water once. The LWM-5 heats and cools it hundreds of times per gallon, in small batches of about a cup and a half, roughly three times a minute. This repeated expansion and contraction is what changes the bond angle.

Ultraviolet treatment and ozone

The machine uses ultraviolet lamps and a quartz bulb — not corona discharge, which would produce unwanted nitrides — generating trace ozone that is introduced into the water as it boils.

Overflow separation

Heavier water has a slightly higher boiling point than lighter water. The machine’s overflow design lets the heavier fraction spill over and be discarded while the lighter steam is captured and condensed. This is a physical separation based on boiling point, and it is what reduces deuterium content in the output.

What is measured, and what is documentedJohn Ellis Water Hydrogen Bond Angle Diagram

  • Bond angle: 113.8°–114°, up from approximately 104.5° in ordinary water, and permanent after cooling.
  • Purity: independent York Laboratory testing; ordinary continuous distillers cannot go below 0.1 PPM TDS, and stopping the boil is why this process can.
  • Patents: U.S. Patent US6409888B1 plus twelve further patents internationally.
  • Output: about one gallon of energized-distilled water every two hours, plus up to ten gallons per hour of energized tap water.

The lab reports, patent documents, bacteria destruction reference chart and farm milk production test are all on the Scientific Data page.

What we don’t claim

We report what can be measured: the bond angle, the TDS figures, the output rate, the patents. We do not make claims about treating, curing or preventing any medical condition. Water is not a substitute for medical care, and if you have a health condition you should talk to your doctor.

How people use it

Most owners use the machine for everyday drinking water and cooking. It is also used on gardens and with livestock — we use it as a foliar spray on the farm in Westbrookville. Customers describe their own experiences on our testimonials page; those are individual accounts, not results we promise.

Lab reports and patent documents are on our Scientific Data page so you can review the originals yourself.

Frequently asked questions

What are the benefits of owning a John Ellis machine?

The practical ones are easy to list. You make distilled water at home instead of buying and hauling bottles. There are no filter cartridges or membranes to replace, and unlike reverse osmosis there’s no wastewater stream. It fits on a countertop, it’s built by hand in New York by John’s family, and it comes with a 6-month warranty and a real person on the phone. We don’t make health claims about the water. Owners describe their own experiences on our testimonials page.

Is John Ellis Water a bottled water?

No. John Ellis Water is made by the LWM-5 machine in your own home. You buy the machine once and make the water yourself.

How is it different from a regular water distiller?

A regular distiller boils water continuously in one pass. The LWM-5 heats and cools small batches hundreds of times per gallon and adds ultraviolet treatment during each cycle. See our comparison with filters and reverse osmosis for more detail.

How much does the machine cost?

The LWM-5 is $2,800 and includes a 6-month limited warranty. You can order online or by phone at 845-754-8696.

Can I try the water before I buy?

Yes. Call us at 845-754-8696, Monday to Friday, 10am–4pm EST, and ask about a free water sample.
